SHOULDER PAIN

Millions of people see their physician each year for shoulder injuries including upper arm sprains and strains. These injuries are often because of athletic activities that involve excessive, repetitive, motion. Swimming, tennis, pitching and weightlifting are common examples; however, injuries can also occur during normal everyday activities such as gardening, hanging draperies, and excessive computer use to name a few. Most problems in the shoulder involve the muscles, ligaments, and tendons, rather than the bones.
Some people will have a tendency to ignore the pain and "live with" a shoulder injury, which only aggravates the condition, and may possibly cause more problems. Others may have a high pain tolerance and underestimate the extent of their injury.
There are many treatment options available for shoulder pain. Click on the following sports tips from the American Orthopaedic Society For Sports Medicine on shoulder injuries and treatment options:
- AC JOINT INJURIES - The AC Joint (acromioclavicular joint) is a joint in the shoulder where the collarbone (clavicle) meets the shoulder blade (scapula).
- SHOULDER IMPINGEMENT INJURIES - Impingement refers to the mechanical compression and/or wear of the rotator cuff tendons.

1. Stiff shoulder? Can you rotate your arm in all positions?
2. Does it feel like your shoulder could pop out or slide out of the socket?
3. Do you lack the strength in your shoulder to carry out your daily activities?
